Short biography
MONOLYTH is a Belgian duo of filmmakers and musicians — Théo Roland and Gaëtan Heymans — blending music and image into a single cinematic language. Somewhere between trip-hop, cinematic alternative and pop, their songs arrive with films rather than videos. Their debut EP HABESHA, out 23 October 2026, tells one love story across six chapters: the encounter, the discovery, the attachment, the disillusionment, the fracture, and acceptance.
Long biography
MONOLYTH is a Belgian duo formed by Théo Roland (composer, director, arranger) and Gaëtan Heymans (singer, performer, bassist) — two filmmakers who are also musicians, and who write music and image as the same story rather than treating one as advertising for the other.
That is not a claim, it is a track record. Roland’s short film Unscarred (2023), with Heymans on cinematography, set design and post-production, screened at international festivals. The clips for Time to Move On and Twisted Fate were made entirely in-house. When MONOLYTH release a song, the film comes with it.
Their debut EP HABESHA, out on 23 October 2026, is six tracks and one story, told in six chapters: the encounter, the discovery, the attachment, the disillusionment, the fracture, and acceptance. Written, composed and produced in their own studio, it moves between trip-hop, cinematic alternative rock and contemporary pop — Massive Attack and Portishead are audible, and so is a pop instinct the duo makes no apology for.
Blurry Vision is the second single from the EP, out on 1 October, following Those Habesha Eyeson 23 September. The clip for Twisted Fate follows on 13 October.

The artwork
The covers for this project are paintings by Julie Ghenet, a Belgian painter who has exhibited and sold in Paris, Brussels, Copenhagen, Ottawa and La Louvière. They were not commissioned as illustrations for the record: they are works from the 1990s, chosen by the duo. The cover ofBlurry Vision is La Métamorphose, from 2000.
“Théo and I have always created in parallel: him through music and video, me through painting and collage. Today our artistic worlds are converging in a new way, and I am deeply moved to see my paintings resonate with his writing. Knowing that they can become the first gateway to his music is particularly precious to me.”
